Best Practice Applications. Total Client Focus.
I am passionate about helping managers and leaders make a difference for their organization and their careers. I provide executive coaching and consulting on strategic planning, customer service, project management, and team/organization collaboration. I help clients improve the results of their organization and their own personal impact. As the President of Olympic Performance, Inc. since 1991, I have completed hundreds of engagements with a wide variety of managers and leaders in organizations ranging from broadband technology to government agencies.
I graduated with a BS in Industrial Engineering from Oregon State University (OSU) and have completed advanced training at the University of Idaho and Stanford University. I have successfully been examined as an ISO 9000 lead auditor by the Governing Board of the National Registration Scheme for Assessors of Quality Systems (also known as the IQA) in the United Kingdom.
I started my professional experience in 1976. I have held leadership or officer positions with the Aluminum Company of America, PACCAR (owner of Peterbilt and Kenworth Class 8 truck manufacturing companies), Portland General Electric, and Mutual Health Systems, Inc. (a dental services health care company, now part of InterDent, Inc.).
In 1991, I launched Olympic Performance, Inc. As a consultant, I help clients develop, deploy, and monitor powerful strategic plans to realize results. My services also include conducting employee surveys and leadership 360 surveys, guiding projects back on track, facilitating the completion of business case analysis for potential investments, improving process performance through Lean applications, helping stressed organization move through change, and providing executive coaching for key management personnel.
I am an accomplished programmer, author, and trainer. I developed two computer programs marketed nationally: Fixed Asset Depreciation and M105D. I created a 360-degree leadership assessment instrument and authored a training module titled Managing Customer Expectations, incorporated in the national Partners for Quality standardized curriculum. I developed certificate programs for Portland State University Center for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE) including Creating Customer-Centered Organizational Excellence and the Business Analysis Certificate. I teach in the Project Management Certificate and am very active in providing customized training.
I have written and delivered training and consulting programs through Olympic Performance, Inc. on many topics including service design thinking, customer loyalty, employee loyalty, project management, business analysis, strategic planning, OKRs, and Kanban Agile/Scrum. The Franklin-Covey Institute certified me for their 5 Choices program and I am an expert in their 4DX program. In 2009 I published a book titled Action with Traction about strategic planning and operational execution, incorporating many of the subjects on which I teach and consult.
I am also an experienced presenter and facilitator. For example, I was keynote presenter to over 500 franchisees of the Papa Murphy’s company about Customer Loyalty and to the Alaska Telephone Association about Member Loyalty. I have facilitated planning sessions for City, County, and State elected officials and for staff organizations. I have also facilitated strategic planning and operations planning for profit and non-profit leadership teams and helped many teams at all levels in a wide variety of organizations challenged with differing priorities, conflicting strategies, and personality conflicts become functional and effective.
In February 2019, Oregon State University inducted me into the Academy of Distinguished Engineers. The Academy award recognizes alumni for “sustained and distinguished contributions to the profession, the field, the university, or society at large.”
Active in my community and profession, I am past board chair for the Washington County Community Action Organization and past chair and current member of the Oregon State University Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) Industry Advisory Board. I was chair of the Clackamas County Budget Committee, vice-president of the TTS Youth Competitive Soccer Club, and chair of the Tualatin Americans with Disabilities Act Board. I am a former elected official for the Tualatin City Council and served on the Tualatin Budget Committee, Tualatin Development Commission, Washington County Cooperative Library System Board, and the Tualatin Core Area Parking Board. I am past chair of the Tualatin Architectural Review Board and past president and director of the Portland Chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
When not working, I enjoy genealogy, photography, travel, and walking. For over 20 years I coached competitive youth soccer, first for Southside Soccer Club and later for Westside Timbers Premier Soccer Club. I also coached soccer at Tigard High School and later at Tualatin High School. Now I am an avid soccer fan.
